Mary Stenta


Mary Stenta founded The Academy of Dance Arts in 1999; she is the owner and Artistic Director of the company. Mary has been teaching the love of dance to students since 1980.Mary is a graduate of Ryerson University Dance Program. She is an Accredited Teacher and a Full Member of The Royal Academy of Dance (R.A.D.). Mary also holds the Honours Advanced National, and the Associate and Honours Advanced Modern certificates of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance (A.I.S.T.D.), and is a member of the Jazz Division for the Associated Dance Arts for Professional teachers (A.D.A.P.T).

Mary Stenta is also a graduate of the University of Ottawa, Master of Education (MEd), and Bachelor of Education (BEd), Summa Cum Laude. She also received an Arts Specialist Certificate from the University of Ottawa, and continues to teach and support the importance of Arts in education. Mary has danced professionally in Canada, and has worked with professional companies in Leningrad and Moscow, Russia. Her choreographic flair, grace, and attention to detail have earned her many awards.Under her guidance, ADA students have earned rewards of distinction from Overall Top Studio Awards, to Dancer of the Year Awards.

Students have danced in So You Think You Can Dance (Top 20), Cirque de Soleil, Les Grands Ballet Canadiens’ Nutcracker, Tree House TV, Culture Shock, Driven, CanDance European Show Team, Dance World Cup, Ryerson University, and York University.Mary continues to share her passion of dance education, and inspire students of all ages!


Mélanie St-Onge

Mélanie is a co-founder of The Academy of Dance Arts Inc., and was an Artistic Director of ADA for 10 years. Mélanie is an Accredited Teacher with the Associated Dance Arts for Professional Teachers (A.D.A.P.T) and holds her Advanced Level A.D.A.P.T. Jazz certificate and her Intermediate Royal Academy of Dance (R.A.D) Ballet Certificate. Mélanie is a remarkable choreographer having won many Diamond, Overall, Highscore and 1st place awards for her work. Mélanie has also produced the annual CHEO Just For Kids fundraising gala. It is her energy and enthusiasm which make her an outstanding instructor.


Vicky Lam

Vicky studied classical ballet at the Royal Academy of Dance in London, England where she received her RAD Teaching Diploma with Distinction. She also studied ISTD Modern and Tap in London, England where she received her Associate Teaching Diploma with Honours. Vicky has taught in Europe and across Canada. Her passion is evident in her teaching of the art.


Natasha Stenta

Natasha’s twenty–one years of dancing have earned her Advanced certificates in A.D.A.P.T. Jazz, Tap, RAD Ballet, Lyrical, Contemporary, and Hip Hop. Natasha continues to dance and has appeared in music videos and live performances throughout North America and Europe. She was a member of the CanDance Greece Performance Team and danced at the Escapade Musical Festival for famous Djs such as Steve Angelo, Benny Benassi, Fedde Le Grand, Hardwell, W&W and Krewella.  Natasha is a graduate of the University of Ottawa, with a Bachelor of Education as an accredited teacher, and a Bachelor of Arts with concentrations in Psychology and Theatre. Natasha is also a remarkable choreographer and teacher. She choreographed the CASCO Charity Gala for CHEO, and teaches students of all ages at ADA, who in turn succeed tremendously under her direction. Her unique style and creative flair are evident in her teaching style, and in her Diamond and first place choreographies.


Caterina Stenta

Caterina is a vibrant dancer who has won many awards for her style and performance qualities. Her love of dance is evident in her performances both on stage and in the classroom. In the classroom, she inspires children of all ages with her enthusiasm and dance knowledge. Caterina trained for nineteen years in RAD Ballet, ADAPT Jazz and Tap, Lyrical, Contemporary, and Hip Hop. She has earned Dancer of the Year scholarships and continues to perform in music videos and live performances in North America and Europe. Caterina also danced in the Nutcracker with Les Grands Ballet Canadiens, in Greece with CanDance, in London with The Huron Heat, and in Ottawa with the Escapade Musical Festival.


Ashlee Forrester

Ashlee’s many years of dance training have earned her a student membership with the R.A.D and many successes. She has trained in R.A.D ballet as well as in A.D.A.P.T Jazz and Tap to the Advanced Level. She has competed since a very young age and has won many awards. Ashlee was a member of the 2009 CanDance Greece Performance Team. Ashlee has graduated from the University of Ottawa with a 4 year degree in Arts, as well as an Education degree and is now an accredited teacher. She relates well to young children and is great at encouraging the love of dance. As a teacher, Ashlee wants to make a difference.


Stéphanie Marengere

Stéphanie is a Hip Hop choreographer/dancer for over 11 years, dancing for 6 years with Ottawa’s noted Hip Hop dance team, Culture Shock Ottawa. She is teaching advanced Hip Hop workshops & cardio hip hop classes throughout the city to children and adults of all ages. She has traveled to Montreal, Toronto, Washington D.C and California to perform and take workshops from some of the best choreographers in Canada and the U.S.A. Stephanie also has a gymnastics background, competing regionally and provincially for 10 years. Her high energy style and creative approach differentiates her choreography from the others, and this does not go unnoticed, winning entertainment and choreography awards for her competitive numbers.


Libby Davey

Libby will be returning for her second year with The Academy of Dance Arts as a teacher and choreographer. She was with the Urban crew DRIVEN Dance Ottawa for 6 years competing and performing all around Canada. She graduated from the University of Ottawa with a double Major in Psychology and Anthropology. She trains and choreographs for the University of Ottawa GeeGees Dance Team and was a part of their team for 5 years. Libby received her formal technical training in Ottawa where she completed many levels of RAD and ADAPT syllabuses as well as competed and won many awards. She is an accomplished Hip Hop, Contemporary and Lyrical dancer. Libby eats sleeps and breaths dance. She attends as many workshops as she can, and supports the local Hip Hop workshops that run in Ottawa. Libby has been in several music videos, performed with international singer Mohombi, and performs regularly at many events in Ottawa and Canada. Libby might be little, but her enthusiasm makes her presence very large!


Mackenzie Schuiteboer

Mackenzie has been dancing since the age of 3 and is trained in various styles of dance. She has earned many certificates under the RAD ballet and A.D.A.P.T jazz. She has competed since the age of 9 and has won many awards. She is currently enrolled at Carleton University and working on getting her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice with a concentration in Law. Mackenzie is very outgoing and hardworking. She relates well to children with her enthusiasm and spirit for dance.


Émilie Lachapelle

Émilie has been dancing since the age of 4. After being in the dance world for 14 years, she has performed in many styles of dance. She has trained in R.A.D Ballet and A.D.A.P.T Jazz as well as tap. Having competed since a young age, Émilie has been part of many award winning groups. She demonstrates focus and determination, as well as a large passion for the art of dance and is eager to share this amongst her students.


Katie Hodgins

Katie began dancing at the age of three. She has danced at the Advance A.D.A.P.T level in Jazz and Intermediate level in Tap. Over the Years Katie has had the opportunity to be a part of many award winning dance pieces. She has experience in Jazz, Ballet, Tap, Lyrical, Contemporary, Musical Theatre, and Pointe. Katie Holds a Diploma from Algonquin College as a Registered Early Childhood Educator. She is also a graduate of Carleton University with a Bachelor of Arts, Major in Psychology. Katie is very outgoing, energetic, passionate and eager to inspire young dancers with her love of music and dance. Katie has been at the desk at ADA for the last four years enjoying working behind the scenes, and ensuring client satisfaction.


Alexa Therien

Alexa has been dancing since the age of 4 and is trained in many different dance styles. Throughout her competitive dance career, she has won numerous awards. Alexa has danced professionally with the Hip Hop group Driven, has competed at the Canadian National Hip Hop Championships, and has been a main dancer in a music video, head choreographer and dancer for CASCO (charity gala), dances at Winterlude, the Culture Shock Showcases. She is recent graduate with a Bachelor of Education, and is now an accredited teacher. Her vibrant personality and her passion for dance combined with her love of working with children makes Alexa’s classes energetic, creative and fun!


Edz Gyamfi

Edz is a 3 time FULL DANCE SCHOLARSHIP recipient at OIP Dance Centre (Toronto ON). His main foundations are hip hop and dancehall/ragga with traces of jazz, salsa and Afro dance foundation within his dancing belt. Edz has over 6 years of teaching experience at various dance studios and have experience in various comps such as O.U.C.H Ontario University for (Toronto 2nd place winners 2011), Dance wars (Ottawa 2008), Jack of all Styles (Ottawa, Judge) and training (OIP Company 3 year Full Scholarship Recipient) and BDC (NYC) . Dancehall KING Ottawa ( 2nd place). His teaching style is unique, he focuses on the history,foundations and technique before hitting the choreography aspect of the dance style. His credits include Massari, Jay Vado, CTV Ottawa Morning Live, Yao Generis, SJ Stacks, Governor General Gala, Rebecca Nazz & Blake Mcgrath. Edz has worked with some of the most renowned hip hop choreographers and performers in the Canadian Music scene including Danny Davalos and Leon Blackwood.


Christopher Atkins

Christopher has been dancing since he was 9 years old. Over the past 8 years he has experimented in numerous styles such as: Hip hop, House, Popping and most notably; Bboying. He has experience competing in Ottawa region battles against the strongest street dancers from the east of Canada. He practices very hard in order to constantly improve his skills and always have something new to show his students. Christopher currently trains with some of the best young Bboys in Ottawa and looks to make dance his livelihood.
